Father Emil Tomaskovic, SA, was born in Yonkers, N.Y., June 3, 1944. He entered high school at St. John’s Atonement Seminary, Montour Falls, in 1957 and made his vows in 1963.   He attended St. Pius X College at Graymoor and the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. where he received degrees in Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1971 at St. Columbanus Church, Peekskill, NY. He was Associate Director of New Hope Manor in 1972 and went on the become Associate Director of the Novitiate at Rhode Island and Medford, MA from 1972 – 1973.   In 1973, he became Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center at Saranac Lake, NY. He received accreditation in alcoholism counseling and served as Director of the Rehabilitation Program at St. Joseph’s until 1989, when he was elected Minister General of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. As such, he was responsible for guiding the friars in their pastoral, social, and ecumenical ministries throughout the world. He was reelected to a second term in 1994 and served until May of 1999. In April 2000, Father Tomaskovic was appointed Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts for the friars.

Father Tomaskovic has served as President of the New York Federation of Alcoholism Counselors and Vice President of the New York State Council on Alcoholism.
