Fr. Dan Callahan, SA, completed his 17th Lake Placid Ironman race on July 28, 2018! Beginning with a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a grueling 112-mile bike trail through the Adirondack Mountains, and then a 26.2 mile run, Fr. Dan demonstrated physical, emotional, mental, and even spiritual discipline by completing this extraordinary race.

Eric Britt offers the following reflection upon recently completing the Franciscan At-One-Ment Mission Project—a summer discernment internship which includes living with the Friars while studying in Rome about “Ecumenical and Interreligious Movements from a Catholic Perspective.” 

Since 1972, Religious Brothers from all over the United States have been gathering together to learn from and support one another at the Religious Brothers Conference. This annual conference is designed to promote the ministry and vocation of Brothers in the church; to serve as a resource for professional and ministerial support, as well as provide opportunities for further spiritual growth for all religious Brothers. 

The Introductory Ecumenical Leadership Institute, co-sponsored by the Catholic Association of Diocesan Ecumenical and Interreligious Officers and the Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, was held from July 23rd to the 287th in Washington, DC. For over thirty-five years, this event has helped people in ministry become familiar with the ecumenical spirit and documents of the Church in relationship to other Christian communities.

The Catholic Press Association recently recognized Ecumenical Trends, a publication of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, in its 2018 Catholic Press Awards program.

“When you needed to connect to spirit, that’s just where you went”, Kacey Morabito Grean shares about Graymoor. Kacey, a WHUD radio host and long-time friend of the Friars has been traveling to Graymor since she was a child.

Going into our travels to Italy, I knew that Assisi would be a highlight. I had heard wonderful things about it from everyone that I knew who had gone there. This compounded with the fact that I was going there with Franciscans and with a special appreciation for it now that I have been living and working with Franciscans for almost a month. What I soon came to realize was that this weekend would be the highlight of my entire experience in Italy.

Today our class met with both the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. It was an incredible experience to see both of these great institutions.

There is great excitement over the Friars recently establishing San Damiano Farm, which gives the opportunity for men suffering from substance abuse to literally plant seeds and witness the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor.
