On July 9, Friars and Sisters across all of our ministries celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Atonement.

Fr. Dennis Polanco, SA shared with staff at the Inn, “Today Friars, Sisters and Tertiaries invite you to join us in celebrating a woman of great faith that gave her confidence to endure the impossible….Miriam of Nazareth…better known as Mary. (Known to the Society of the Atonement as Our Lady of the Atonement.)

We pray with her to our Loving God for the gift of Unity and peace…in a world on fire. Her “yes” and steadfast faith gave her confidence to face the joys, great sorrow and wonderful New life promised to us all. Mary of Nazareth, give us that same confidence in the Promises of your Son.”

In Italy, the Friars shared photos and this reflection on Facebook:

Today we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Atonement. Servant of God Father Paul Wattson, SA, who founded the Society of the Atonement with Mother Lurana White, SA, maintained a longstanding devotion to the Blessed Mother throughout his life.

Father Paul was the first to bestow the name Our Lady of the Atonement upon the Holy Mother of Jesus. In April of 1919, Pope Benedict XV gave formal approval to recognize the Blessed Mother under that title. Please join the Friars in venerating and praying to Our Lady of the Atonement today.
