OBITUARY NOTICE:
Brother Savio McNeice, SA, Franciscan Friar of the Atonement

(September 16, 1936 — June 10, 2018)

(June 12, 2018—Graymoor, Garrison, NY) Brother Savio McNeice, SA, a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement, entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Br. McNeice (nee Robert Mark) was born on September 16, 1936 in Pittsfield, MA. He was raised in Pittsfield and attended local schools. After his graduation from St. Joseph High School, Br. McNeice entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in July 1958. He received his habit in 1959. Br. McNeice professed First Vows in 1961 and made his Final Vows in July 1966.

From 1961 – 1965, Br. McNeice worked in food service at St. Paul Friary at Graymoor in Garrison, NY. In September 1965, he was assigned to Our Lady of the Atonement Novitiate in Cumberland, RI where he worked and trained other Friars in food service. Br. McNeice continued his ministry in food service for the Friars at St. Joseph’s Novitiate from 1967-1968 and in his return to St. Paul Friary at Graymoor from 1968 – 1977. In 1977 he moved to Washington, DC and managed the kitchen at the Atonement Seminary, a position he held until 1982. In 1982, Br. McNeice was assigned to pastoral and social service ministry at St. Paul’s Church in Vancouver, BC. He was assigned to St. Joseph the Worker Church in Vancouver in 1998 as a parochial assistant. After 18 years of fruitful ministry to the poor and homeless in Vancouver, he was assigned to the staff of the Chapel of Our Savior at the Westgate Mall in Brockton, MA in September 2000. Br. McNeice was a friendly and much beloved “one-man welcoming committee” at the Chapel and was still in active ministry there at the time of his death.

Br. McNeice was the son of the late Vincent McNeice of Pittsfield, MA and Catherine Bourne McNeice of Lenox, MA. He is survived by his sister Ann Costanzo of Pittsfield, MA, a sister-in-law Patricia McNeice, wife of the late James McNeice of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Br. McNeice died at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA.

Visitation will take place at the Chapel of Our Savior in Brockton, MA on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 2 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. A Memorial Mass at Graymoor in Garrison, NY and Interment in the Friars’ cemetery on the grounds will take place at a later date to be announced.
