Candlelight concert featuring Peekskill’s Daisy Jopling to take place Jan. 31 at Our Lady of the Atonement Chapel
A row of candlelight will illuminate Our Lady of the Atonement Chapel at Graymoor in Garrison, five miles from downtown Peekskill, on Saturday, Jan. 31. Beginning at 4 p.m., the site will become the setting for Candlelight Concert, an event that brings together music, love, and remembrance. The gathering is expected to last at least one hour and will offer a space for reflection and spirituality.
The concert, which integrates live music as part of an atmosphere of contemplation, will feature violinist Daisy Jopling of Peekskill and pianist Alex Smith. Both musicians maintain active professional careers and have shared the stage in similar performances. Jopling has focused her work on cultural and educational initiatives, while Smith has participated in performances and recordings with artists such as Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.

During Saturday’s concert, the musicians will perform a repertoire of gentle pieces designed to surround the audience with a mosaic of harmony and emotion. The purpose of the event is to create an immersive experience that brings together the soft glow of the luminarias with the resonant tones of the instruments.
Inside the chapel, the luminarias will not serve as simple decoration. They will represent names, prayers, and intentions offered by those in attendance. The lights are presented as symbols of love and remembrance for loved ones. Each flame becomes a gesture of unity and hope, transforming the space into one of spiritual reflection.
Organizers extended an invitation for participants to take part in this gesture, which aligns with Graymoor’s religious tradition. “May our shared light inspire us to walk the path of At-One-Ment, embracing all with love and striving for the unity Christ prayed for,” reads part of the event description.
Graymoor’s tradition is rooted in the spiritual mission of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. The religious community was founded in 1898 and is dedicated to prayer, reconciliation, and unity. The lighting of candles and luminarias is part of symbolic practices that allow participants to offer intentions, remember loved ones, and engage in collective contemplation.
Candlelight Concert is open to the public. Advance registration is recommended through a link provided by the congregation. The event is free, though a voluntary donation is encouraged. For additional information or details, inquiries may be directed to info@atonementfriars.org.
