Fr. David Poirier, SA, in his new role as Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Promoter participated in the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering in Washington, D.C., from January 25-28.

There he joined fellow Catholic leaders from across the nation in tackling a wide range of social justice issues, including nuclear disarmament, climate change, immigration, human trafficking, gun violence, poverty and humanitarian aid, through prayer, workshops, presentations and political advocacy.

Hosted by the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops, the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering convenes social ministry leaders each year to address pressing domestic and global challenges through connection, learning, prayer and direct advocacy on Capitol Hill with members of Congress.

This year’s gathering, with its theme of “Bearing Witness: Life and Justice for All,” drew more than 600 participants, making it the largest in the more than 30 years the annual meeting of Catholic activists has been held.
