“Let the brothers in whatever places they may be among others to serve or to work,” wrote St. Francis of Assisi.

As Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, we strive to live out St. Francis’ legacy through joyful service. We seek out the poor, the marginalized, and the forgotten, bringing justice and peace to all, in the spirit of our founders, Servant of God Father Paul Wattson, SA, and Mother Lurana White, SA.

Serving Like St. Francis in Italy

Reading the life of St. Francis deeply shaped Br. Charles Okorie, NSA, who now ministers in the very town where the saint once walked. He volunteers at Emporio Solidale 7 Ceste, a food center that provides groceries and household items for hundreds of struggling families.

Br. Charles also serves at the Serafico Institute, a nonprofit organization that cares for children and young adults with disabilities. His mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that each person he encounters knows the depth of God’s love.

“All of this gives me the opportunity to continue maturing in my vocation, deepening my calling, and growing in service for the greater glory of God,” said Br. Charles.

Serving Like St. Francis in Peru

During Easter, Br. Teodoro Zamora, SA, and Br. Alexander Espinosa, SA, brought the joy of the Resurrection to people who were unable to attend church in El Pulínistaquilla, a mountain village 2,600 meters (1.6 miles) above sea level. See photos below.

Our Friars visited the elderly and sick, offering prayers, companionship, and the gift of Holy Communion. The Franciscan spirit is alive even in the most remote corner of the Andes.

Let us never forget Our Lord’s words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). And let us follow in the footsteps of Christ Himself and St. Francis of Assisi.
