This past Sunday, June 26, the Franciscan Friars of Atonement at Graymoor recognized the anniversaries of six of the Friars. Along with 300 guests, the Friars celebrated the Jubilees with Mass and a luncheon.

 

 

 

Celebrating Diamond Jubilees, marking 60 years since entering the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement are Fr. Joseph DiMauro, SA; Br. John Baptist Hildreth, SA; Br. Hugh MacIsaac, SA; Br. William Martyn, SA; and Br. DePorres Poncia, SA. 

 

The Friars are also marking the Silver Jubilee of first profession of Br. Thomas Banacki, SA, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his entrance

into the fraternity.

 
Diamond Jubilarians

60 Years

Fr. Joseph DiMauro, SA

Born in Boston, MA, he joined the Friars in 1957, professed his first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965. He was ordained in 1978.

Fr. Joseph is currently retired and the director of the Father Paul of Graymoor Guild. Past positions include administrator of St. Paul’s Friary at Graymoor, Sant’Onofrio al Gianicolo, and St. Joseph Novitiate. He also served as pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, on the staffs of the Chapel of Our Savior and the Retreat Department
at Graymoor.

Br. John Baptist Hildreth, SA

Born in New Haven, CT, he joined the Friars in 1957, professed his first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965.

Br. John Baptist is currently retired. Past positions include the culinary departments of St. Paul Friary at Graymoor and Our Lady of the Atonement Novitiate, pilgrimage coordinator at Graymoor, and the staff of the Catholic Central Library in London. He also served at Graymoor’s Retreat Department, as vocation director at Graymoor, as an assistant at Our Lady of the Rosary parish, and at the Paul Wattson Friary.

Br. Hugh MacIsaac, SA

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he joined the Friars in 1957, professed his first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965.

Br. Hugh is currently retired and the guardian of the Paul Wattson Friary, Toronto, Canada. Past positions include administration at St. John Seminary, Montour Falls, NY, the staff of Catholic Central Library in London, and parochial ministry at St. Paul’s, Vancouver. He also served at St. Francis Communities Mission in Jamaica, in California prison chaplaincy, hospital ministry at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Vancouver, and as guardian of St. Paul’s Friary, Graymoor.

Br. Bill Martyn, SA

Born in Boston, MA, he joined the Friars in 1957, professed his first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965.

Br. Bill is currently chair of the Ecumenical and Interreligious Committee and is a member of St. Paul’s Friary Council. Past positions include ministry in Brazil, campus ministry at the University of Oklahoma, ministry at the Chapel of Our Savior, and as co-director, then director of Graymoor Ecumenical Institute. He also served as director of the New York Archdiocesan Ecumenical and Interreligious Commission, the Friars’ procurator general to the Holy See, associate director for the Center for Interreligious Understanding at Ramapo College, the ecumenical officer for the Diocese of Raleigh, director of Faith Formation at St. Michael the Archangel Church, and webmaster for the “Friars Only” website.

Br. DePorres Poncia, SA

Born in Wilmington, DE, he joined the Friars in 1957, professed his first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965.

Br. DePorres is currently guardian of St. Paul’s Friary, Graymoor. Past positions include parochial ministry in Texas, guardianship of Our Lady of the Atonement Friary in Cumberland, RI, and the Atonement Friary in Washington, DC. He also served as guardian and director of the Chapel of Our Savior Friary, Brockton, MA.

25 Years

Br. Thomas Banacki, SA

Born in Bayonne, NJ, he entered the Friars in 1990, professed his first vows in 1992 and final vows
in 1995.

Br. Thomas is currently the guardian and director of the Friary in Brockton, MA. Past positions include ministry at St. Christopher’s Inn, Director of the Vocation Department at Graymoor, and the Thrift/Gift Store manager at the Chapel of Our Savior.
