2011 Sharing Hope Dinner
The friars held their 18th Annual Sharing Hope Celebration Dinner on Friday, September 30th at The Pierre in New York City.
The benefit honors those who have shown a commitment to helping others and inspiring hope.
This year, John and June Heffernan will received the Graymoor Sharing Hope Award in recognition for their commitment to helping the poor, the homeless, and those less fortunate. Their mission, combined with their dedication in ensuring that underprivileged children receive quality educations, provides an inspiration that echoes the Friars own charism to be of service to human kind.
Restaurateur and renowned chef Peter X. Kelly will received the Graymoor Community Service Award for his commitment to helping religious and non-profit organizations effectively and creatively fundraise so that they can continue their good works.
The Graymoor Award will go to Thomas Conniff of Cullen & Dykman, LLP who was honored not only for his personal and professional commitment to public service, but also for the efforts he has taken to furthering God’s message of hope by dedicating his time, talent, counsel, and financial support towards helping Catholic schools, colleges, and universities.
Over 300 people attended the dinner and more than $315,000 was raised for the worldwide missions and Ministries of the Friars.
For more than one hundred years, the Friars of the Atonement as sons of St. Francis have helped to give hope to those who have been wounded, lost their way or given up. Through our missions, the Friars work for the restoration of unity among Christians, aid those struggling to overcome the devastation of drug addiction and alcoholism; promote peace and unity and promote better understanding among religions through dialogue; provide counseling and support for those with HIV/AIDS; work with youth through campus ministry and minister to those in hospitals and prisons.
