Discover the Real Story of Man’s Fall

Discover the Real Story of Man’s Fall

What if I told you you’ve been reading the story of man’s fall wrong your entire life? When confronted with the unfortunate events of the first sin, most of us point to the woman and blame her for our unfortunate demise. But St. Paul had a different perspective.

In Romans 5:12 he tells us, “Therefore… sin came into the world through one man and death through sin…” Hold it. Read that again. “Sin came into the world through one man…” St. Paul doesn’t blame the woman. He blames Adam. If you read on through verse 14 this becomes even clearer when he refers to the “transgression of Adam.”

But just as sin, and the resulting divisions between God and man and man with one another, entered into the world through one man, reconciliation and atonement entered into the world through another man. St. Paul says in verse 19, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous.”

You are called, in one way or another, to continue Christ’s work of reconciliation by laying down your life, and becoming an instrument of peace and reconciliation. That’s exactly the mission that we live as Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. As men of God, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement passionately live our mission to achieve At-One-Ment – the reconciliation of mankind with one another, with creation, and with God, that Christ began through his life and ministry.
