About Fr. Patrick Cogan, SA

 

Father Patrick Cogan, SA, originally from Buffalo, NY, celebrated his golden jubilee at Graymoor in Garrison, NY, in 2014, marking 50 years since first entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement.  He recently served as Executive Coordinator of the Canon Law Society of America, a position he also held from 1992 to 1999.  He currently resides at Graymoor.

Ordained in 1977, Father Patrick was Associate Pastor at St. Francis de Sales Church in Lumberton, NC. He worked as Interim Executive Director for Metropolitan Ministries in Buffalo, then as a professor of religious studies at D’Youville College in Buffalo, where he was part of campus ministry. He worked as Editor of Ecumenical Trends, the journal published by Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute, a ministry of the Friars. He was professor of Canon Law at St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario. He served as Executive Coordinator of the CLSA from 1992 to 1999, a consultor on the Board of Governors from 2001 to 2003, and a member of the Convention Planning Committee from 2007 to 2011. He is the editor of Canon Law Digest, volumes XIII and XIV. The Canon Law Society honored Father Patrick with its distinguished Role of Law award in 2012 for his outstanding contribution to the field of canon law. Father Patrick received his bachelor’s degree in 1972 from Siena College in Loudonville, NY. He holds the STL and JCL from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and the JCD/PhD from St. Paul University and the University of Ottawa.
