When many people consider discernment, they imagine seeking God’s calling for them in solitude and remote locations. We’re often told that the best way to hear God’s whisper is by finding quiet and shutting out the noise of the world so that we may hear Him. But this is not always the case...
Sometimes, truly discerning a call to a religious life is not through seclusion, but instead, full immersion. By living in community, by experiencing first hand your potential future life, and by immersing yourself in the world, you can hear God’s call not as a whisper, but as a symphony that is clear and apparent.
If you feel a calling towards the path of Saint Francis, and are considering offering your life to Christ and the Catholic Church, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement invite you to live in their House of Discernment located in New York City. Just as Christ invited the first apostles to follow Him by inviting them into the place where He was staying, the Friars invite young men considering a vocation to "come and see."
This ministry helps men discern a possible call to religious life while living and praying with the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement.
