Faithful to their founder's vision of at-one-ment, over the years, the Friars have labored among people of all faiths throughout the world. Their work took them to the rural countryside of Ireland and Brazil; to the poor suburbs of Jamaica; and into the migrant worker camps of the Southeast United States.

As the need arose, their ministries expanded to help native peoples in the United States and Canada; African-Americans in the segregated South; Mexican-Americans in the Soutwest United States; and Japanese in World War II internment camps in Canada.

Today, the Friars continue their ministry in Parishes which serve African_Americans, Hispanics, and Japanese in Los Angeles, CA. They also have pastoral roles in Apex, NC, Sterling, VA and Brockton, MA in the United States; in Toronto, and Richmond, Canada; in Kent, England; and in the Diocese of Yokohama in Japan.

In addition, The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement provide social services to prisons and hospitals. Among the existing ministries are:

Prison Chaplaincies

  • Alcohol and/or chemical dependency

Hospital and Nursing Home Ministries

  • St. Vincent's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada
  • St. Vincent's Hospital, Harrison, NY
  • Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, VT
  • Social service walk-in center in British Columbia, Canada
