Fr. Kenneth Cienik, SA is the new director of the Graymoor Spiritual Life Center. He succeeds Fr. James Gardiner, SA, who had held the position since 1998. Fr. Ken was most recently director of the pre-theology program of Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio.
V. Rev. James F. Puglisi, SA,Minister General, said of the appointment, “We are confident that as director, Fr. Ken will continue the tradition of Franciscan hospitality and welcome at the Center that Fr. Gardiner has so well established and stewarded.”
Commissioned a Navy Reserve Chaplain in 1986, Fr. Ken has served tours in Antarctica, Italy, Japan, and Korea. During the first Gulf War, he served on the Battleship WISCONSIN. In 2003, he was assigned to the USS SAIPAN, in the North Arabian Gulf where he ministered to Marines and sailors on board as well as in Iraq. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain on June 1, 2010.
Fr. Ken entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1972 and was ordained in 1977. He received his bachelor's degree from Siena College. He holds masters’ from Washington Theological Union and Duquesne University, and a doctorate of ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
“God has blessed me with this new assignment,” says Fr. Ken. “I am looking forward to living and working at Graymoor— and embracing the challenges and opportunities of serving the friars and the people who pilgrimage here seeking spiritual fulfillment and respite.”
